SUMMARY:Fresh\, Local & Delicious with Andrea Hess
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Friday\, June 26th for a show‑and‑tell featuring fresh fruits and vegetables\, total vegetable protein (TVP)\, food displays\, snack ideas\, and awesome cookbooks from the library. \nCelebrate Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Month by eating local\, reducing carbon emissions\, and having fun in the kitchen!  Even going vegetarian for just one meal a week can make a big climate impact\, saving up to 400 kg of CO₂ a year. Skip packaged desserts and enjoy sweet\, digestion‑boosting papaya instead! \nAndrea Hess is a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience. Recently\, she completed additional training to become a nurse health coach\, focusing more on prevention and taking care of oneself. Andrea is very passionate about living a long\, healthy life through movement and good nutrition\, especially as we get older. As a nurse\, she has seen many people suffer from long-term illnesses and obesity. She believes that lifestyle changes—like better eating habits and regular activity—can prevent or even reverse up to 80% of chronic diseases. \nGrowing up in Germany\, Andrea enjoyed a variety of foods\, changing up her protein sources and eating seasonal fruits and vegetables. Now\, she is interested in how easy it is to eat less meat and find simple\, tasty alternatives. Living and working along the Hāmākua coast has helped her learn about farming and enjoy fresh produce all year round. The beautiful surroundings make it easy to stay active. Andrea believes that trying new foods\, recipes\, and activities can help everyone feel their best. She invites you to join her on this journey to better health and wellness. \n\nAll programs are subject to change. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication\, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program\, service\, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged\, but not required. See a schedule of upcoming events on the HSPLS Events Calendar.
