SUMMARY:Meet Young Adult Author Vanessa Fowler
DESCRIPTION:Tweens\, teens\, and adults are invited to join this special author talk and writing workshop. Vanessa Fowler is the author of “A Tale of Two Sparrows”\, a young adult book about two seventeen-year-olds forced into a frozen wilderness together\, with danger closing in on them from every side. Guards\, ghostly creatures\, and the weight of their own painful pasts are all working against them. But survival will mean learning to trust the one person you have every reason not to\, and discovering how hard and how beautiful it can be to let someone in when you’re already fighting just to stay alive. \nParticipants will be able to take home a  complimentary copy of her book while supplies last. To learn more about Vanessa and her book please visit her website: Vanessa Fowler webpage \nThis program is generously funded by the Friends of the Hilo Public Library. Registration is not necessary\, and inquiries are welcome \n\nAnyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication\, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program\, service\, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged\, but not required. All programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events on the HSPLS Events Calendar.

SUMMARY:Keiki ID With HPD
DESCRIPTION:  \nDo you need a keiki ID card or to update the photo on a current one? Officers from the Hilo Police Department will be here to do just that. This is a free service and prior registration is not required. \nAbout keiki ID’s: \nThe Hawaiʻi Police Department provides free keiki IDs at community events around the island throughout the year. A photograph of the child is taken and laminated onto a department-issued identification card with emergency information about a child. Parents are then given the keiki ID card. Remember to update your keiki’s photo at least yearly as there will be changes to physical characteristics with age. \nAnyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication\, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program\, service\, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged\, but not required.\nAll programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events on the HSPLS Events Calendar.
