SUMMARY:1\,000 Books Before Kindergarten!
DESCRIPTION:Parents and caregivers are the first education providers during the 0-5 early critical years. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is a simple  and fun program that promotes reading to  newborns\, infants\, and toddlers and encourages parent and child bonding through reading. SUMMARY:Read to a Therapy Dog!
DESCRIPTION:Want to get better at reading?  Are you an animal lover?  Why not practice your reading skills by reading aloud to Nugget\, a therapy dog from Pet Partners\, a national organization that has helped to evaluate and support therapy animal teams since 1977.  This is a great opportunity for beginning readers to practice their reading skills with a totally non-judgmental listener. \nDid you know reading to dogs can boost your reading skills in children as well as help with emotional and social skills!? \nThis program is open to people of all ages.  Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult or caregiver.  As spaces are limited\, registration is required as it will be based on a first come first served basis on the day of the program. Call (808)733-8422 or stop by the library to sign up for the program.  On the day of the program a sign up sheet for 5-10 minutes will be made available prior to the start of the program at the Adult Reference Desk. \nAnyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication\, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program\, service\, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged\, but not required.  All programs are subject to change.  See a schedule of upcoming events on the HSPLS Events Calendar.
