National Poetry Month Reading with Eric Paul Shaffer

To welcome in National Poetry Month, award-winning poet and author Eric Paul Shaffer will read a selection of poems on the theme of “Considering & Re-Considering.”  The reading will consist of poems that consider a topic and then another poem that re-considers the same or a similar topic.

Eric Paul Shaffer is author of six books of poetry, including A Million-Dollar Bill; Lāhaina Noon; Living at the Monastery, Working in the Kitchen; and Portable Planet. 450 of his poems have appeared in more than 250 reviews in the USA, Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Scotland, and Wales. Shaffer has received a number of local literary awards, including the 2002 Elliot Cades Award, a 2006 Ka Palapala Po‘okela Book Award for Lāhaina Noon, and the 2009 James M. Vaughan Award for Poetry. He teaches composition, literature, and creative writing at Honolulu Community College.

This one-hour program is recommended for ages 12 and older; it will be held in the library’s first floor reading room. Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if other special accommodation is needed.
