The Princeville Public Library has completed building renovations and reopened on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The renovation project included replacing the air conditioning, repainting, re-flooring, and making structural improvements to both the interior and exterior of the building.

Effective October 1, 2022, access to the Library for the Blind and Print Disabled will be available only to individuals registered with the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. LBPD was established as a network library for the National Library Service in 1931, and continues in its core mission to provide library services and materials to those who are blind, visually impaired or print disabled for the people of Hawai‘i.
This change is necessary for the limited LBPD staff to focus on supporting their primary patrons and ensuring that they have access to reading materials and resources that support their needs.
All Hawai‘i State Public Library System (HSPLS) libraries offer free public library services (such as free wifi and public computers), as well as access to large type materials. The collection of large type materials at the Waikīkī-Kapahulu Public Library has been increased. Additionally, large type materials may be requested for transfer to your nearest public library for your convenience.
The library’s phones have been intermittently unavailable due to issues with the line. Please call one of the other Library Branches for assistance.

The loss of family, friends, homes, businesses and cultural heritage during the August fires is devastating, and we are all heart broken. Our aloha and prayers are with our Lāhainā community.
While only the walls of our library are left, our staff are unharmed and standing strong. The staff of the statewide system will be here to support you in the coming weeks, months and years.

The library’s parking lot is tentatively scheduled to be closed July 10- 16, 2025 for repaving. No parking will be available in or around the library during this time.

REOPENING | After a major renovation project, the Kahului Public Library is ready to welcome the community back! Join us on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 9 a.m. for a reopening celebration. The celebration kicks off with remarks from community leaders and a Hawaiian blessing, followed by live music, dance performances, and family-friendly fun throughout the day. The Kahului Public Library has been transformed. Renovations include upgraded restrooms, new flooring, fresh painting, improved lighting, updated furniture, and new signage to make the library even more welcoming and accessible.
Starting July 12th, library’s public service hours will be:
Tuesday: Noon to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday & Monday: Closed

The library’s Audiovisual Section, which houses an extensive DVD and CD collection, is open daily. Monday through Friday the AV Section closes from 11:00 am to 2 pm. The AV Section is open for browsing Thursday evening, and all day Saturday.
ALERT | Please be advised that the elevator at the Hawaiʻi Kai Public Library is currently out of order.
