Keiki – Keep Reading with the White House Reading Challenge

Kids in grades K–8 can keep the summer reading momentum going by joining the National Summer Reading Challenge, hosted by the White House.

  • Read 12 books between now and September 5
  • Record each book’s title, start, and finish dates on the Reading Log
  • Fill out and sign the Submission Form (must be signed by a parent or guardian)

Send your completed form to read@mail.whitehouse.gov by September 5, 2025.

ALERT | Libraries will observe the Independence Day holiday July 3–5, 2026. Most libraries will be closed Friday, July 3; however, ʻAiea, ʻĀina Haina, Hanapēpē, Hawai‘i Kai, Hilo, Kahului, Kailua-Kona, Kīhei, Liliha, Makawao, McCully-Mōʻiliʻili, Princeville, Thelma Parker, Wahiawā, Waialua, Waimānalo, Waikīkī-Kapahulu, and Waipahu will be open July 3 and closed Saturday, July 4.

ALERT | All public libraries will be closed in state observance of King Kamehameha Day on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

ALERT | In observance of Memorial Day, all public libraries will be closed from Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25, 2026.

ALERT | In holiday observance of Presidents' Day, all public libraries will be closed from Saturday to Monday, February 14 to 16, 2026.

ALERT | In holiday observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all public libraries will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026.
