Spread kindness online—September is Digital Aloha Month in Hawai‘i!

Posted on: September 9, 2025 | Category: Spotlight

Digital Aloha MonthLieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke has proclaimed September 2025 as Digital Aloha Month, a statewide effort to promote safe, respectful, and mindful digital behavior across Hawai‘i. This initiative is part of the broader Connect Kākou program, which aims to expand internet access and improve digital literacy for students, educators, parents, and communities throughout the islands.

Digital Aloha Month focuses on encouraging empathy, protecting mental health, and fostering responsibility in online interactions. It supports Connect Kākou’s key pillars: enhancing digital know-how, expanding broadband infrastructure, and providing access to essential devices like laptops and tablets.

Partnering with the Hawai‘i State Student Council, Department of Education, Youth Commission, and the Department of Health’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division, the campaign introduces five guiding principles to cultivate a positive and supportive online environment.

Throughout September, Connect Kākou will offer anti-cyberbullying resources, classroom materials, social media content, and access to the Speak Now app—a confidential tool for reporting bullying incidents. This initiative empowers everyone in Hawai‘i to contribute to a safer, kinder digital community.
