It’s Time to Crown Hawaiʻi’s Favorite Children’s Books! Voting is now open for the 2026 Nēnē Award!

Every spring, students across Hawaiʻi help decide which stories soar to the top. Fourth through sixth graders statewide are invited to vote for their favorite chapter book and graphic novel from a curated list of 30 outstanding nominees, selected by the Nēnē Committee.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Read: Explore the nominated chapter books and graphic novels—each one chosen for its quality, creativity, and kid appeal.
  • Vote: Cast your vote online or at your local library and make your voice count.
  • Win: Your favorite books could earn the honor of being named Hawaiʻi’s best!

What Makes a Great Book? As you read, think about what stands out:

  • Appeal: Is it fun, exciting, or hard to put down?
  • Plot: Does the story keep you hooked?
  • Characters: Are they memorable and relatable?
  • Style: Does the writing or artwork flow smoothly and spark your imagination?
  • Theme: Does the story leave you with something meaningful to think about?

Don’t Miss Out! Be part of Hawaiʻi’s literary tradition—vote by Wednesday, February 11.

The winning books will be announced this spring on the Nēnē Award website.
