Keaau Public and School Library

About

Welcome to the Keaʻau Public & School Library! Designed by Matsunaga, Sako, and Associates/Architects, Inc., we’re located on Keaʻau Middle School campus, and opened on Sept. 30, 1974. In 2014, we offered temporary free 24/7 Wi-Fi to Puna residents during June 27th lava flow and Hurricane Iselle’s devastation. Our library celebrated its 40th Anniversary on Nov. 25, 2014.

The Keaʻau Public and School Library is an authorized Passport Acceptance Facility. Learn about passport processing hours and requirements.  Passport services will be temporarily suspended from June 1 through August 1, 2026 in support of the Summer Reading  Challenge. The library will resume service on August 4th with the same acceptance hours.

America 250

Join us as we participate in a nationwide commemoration of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Libraries and communities across the country will gather to read this historic document and reflect on the ideals of liberty, equality, and democracy that helped shape the United States.

This special event marks the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States of America. Together, we will honor this important milestone in our nation’s history and consider how the Declaration’s promises continue to inspire generations today. Free and open to all ages.

Copies of the Declaration of Independence will be provided to attendees while supplies last.

Come be part of this historic nationwide observance and celebrate 250 years of American history.
