Aloha, Our public libraries are currently only open for Library Take Out
Be Safe and Be Well!
The Friends of the Library (FLH) of Hawaii is the amazing organization that supports our Hawaii State Public Library System. This month they are supporting access to Kanopy. Mahalo! Please consider joining the FLH or checking out their new online bookstore for some great deals, which all support your public library system.
WHAT IS KANOPY?
Offering what the New York Times calls “a garden of cinematic delights,” Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films. More than 60% of Kanopy’s film offerings are not available through other streaming services.
Kanopy also has a Kids collection that offers commercial-free films and TV series that inspire, inform and help children develop empathy, mindfulness and self-esteem. The Kanopy Kids collection includes animated storybooks, family-friendly movies and popular titles like Arthur, Barbar, Sesame Street, Maya the Bee and more.
We are also excited that the reception of Kanopy as a new service has been so popular! Just for the first 6 weeks, there were 37,713 movies watched. We are grateful to Kanopy for allowing Hawaii to have unlimited access for an extended period of time, especially while we were home. Now that we are moving into our subscription with Kanopy, we had to begin limiting check-outs per library card so that we can afford to offer this service. This limit began last Monday. We deeply apologize for causing frustration by not having a clearer message out to everyone before this change happened.
WITH YOUR LIBRARY CARD
Your library card now provides you with 3 play credits for films and the opportunity each month to:
Using your play credits
The number of credits you have will appear at the top left of the screen of whatever device you are using. To use a play credit, you must press play on a video and have the video play for at least 5 seconds. Once a play credit is logged, you will have a full 3 days (72 hours) to watch the video as many times as you would like without using another play credit, even if a new month starts and your credits reset. Your Viewing History (when accessing from a web or mobile browser) will show any video that is still available to view in your 3 day window. Unused play credits will not roll over into the next month.
