Welcome to the Hanapēpē Public Library! Designed by architects Guy N. Rothwell and Edmund Abrams, our library opened on Feb. 9, 1950. Our library celebrated 60 years of service and dedicated its new auditorium on Mar. 11, 2010. A photo-voltaic solar system installed in 2011 helps our library and HSPLS save money on utility bills.

What the Chicken Knows : A New Appreciation of the World’s Most Familiar Bird
by Sy Montgomery
“Setting the record straight about the humble chicken. Montgomery’s portrayal of what she terms the “Chicken Universe” is packed with colorful characters, ranging from variously feathered chickens to variously informed neighbors, friends, and other interlopers who offer advice and provide delightful anecdotes … An unflinching and surprisingly heartfelt account of a complex ecosystem.” (Kirkus Reviews)
Due to the cancelation of 2nd Thursday Book Club in March 2026, the novel Bog Queen by Anna North will also be discussed.
