Celebrate “Mele” – Donate a Musical Instrument at the Summer Reading Kick-off Event

Posted on: June 4, 2025 | Category: Community

Join the fun at the Summer Reading Kick-off on Saturday, June 7th from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the Hawai‘i State Library! While you’re enjoying the festivities, you can also make a difference by donating a used musical instrument.

The Music For Life Foundation will be collecting all types of gently used instruments—from ukuleles and guitars to flutes, violins, keyboards, and more.

In the spirit of this year’s Summer Reading theme, “Mele,” your donation can help a young person discover the joy of music and carry the sound of mele into their lives.

Bring an instrument, share the aloha, and help inspire the next generation of musicians!

HSPLS is grateful to the Music for Life Foundation and partners for donating ‘ukulele instruments, tuners, and bags to the ‘Ukulele Lending program. The goal of the lending program is to make ‘ukulele and ‘ukulele-playing opportunities accessible for all by allowing them to be checked out as easily as books at any Hawai‘i public library.

For more information, visit the Music for Life Foundation’s website or send an email.

ALERT | In holiday observance of King Kamehameha I Day, all public libraries will be closed on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
