July 29, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

The news landscape has grown increasingly complex. Fraught with misinformation, half-truths and native advertising, we’re often left wondering who can we trust? Honolulu Civil Beat launched a quarterly news literacy series in partnership with the Hawaii State Public Library System aimed at empowering you to become active and informed consumers of information.

Getting It Right – Pressures of Speed and Accuracy unpacks the challenges reporters face to produce a timely and accurate story. Learn about the demands placed on journalists and why mistakes happen. How do we maintain traditional journalism values in the current, non-stop media landscape?

Panelists: Jim Simon, Managing Editor at Honolulu Civil Beat (moderator); Bill Dorman, News Director at Hawaii Public Radio; Catherine Cruz, Reporter at KITV Island News

Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
