Welcome to the Aiea Public Library! Designed by architect Glenn Miura of CDS International and built on the site of the former Aiea Sugar Mill, our library opened on July 19, 2014. Our $10.4 million library replaces the original library building at 99-143 Moanalua Road. It includes features to reduce electricity costs such as a high-efficiency air-conditioning system and photovoltaic solar panels. In August 2014, Aiea Public Library was awarded the coveted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

This program is designed to give people a chance to enjoy reading aloud with no pressure and no judgment. However, if you don’t want to read to the dog, you can just visit. The registered therapy dogs of K9 Therapets Hawaii visit every 2nd Thursday of the month! All the dogs that participate are specially trained and can help kids of all ages practice reading aloud without judgment. If you want a comfortable setting to practice your reading fluency, reading comprehension, or comfort with canines in general, this is the event for you.
A sign-up sheet for 20 minute sessions with a dog will be available on the meeting room door on the day of the program. Walk-ins welcome as space permits.

Join us as we celebrate Mele, our 2025 Summer Reading theme, with a free local documentary film screening!
Words, Earth & Aloha: The Source of Hawaiian Music honors the profound role of music in Hawaiian life. Focusing on a pivotal era from the 1870s to the 1920s, the film pays tribute to a remarkable generation of Hawaiian composers whose mele (songs) continue to resonate today. This screening is a moving journey into the heart of Hawaiian music—its origins, meanings, and enduring legacy. The 58-minute film is suitable for ages 7 and up.
Free documentary copies will be provided at the event, while supplies last.
Mahalo to The Hawaiian Legacy Foundation for generously sponsoring this film screening event and for their gracious donation of film copies.

At 1:00, join artist Rich Rodriguez as he leads a drawing workshop. You’ll learn the basics of how to draw characters (like Stitch, Smurfs, and SpongeBob), using simple shapes. After the workshop, join Rich and the other artists of Comic Jam Hawaii and get your draw on! In this informal social gathering of local artists (professional, aspiring, and hobbyist), participants can have fun and participate where they’re comfortable. Artists do collaborative cartoons, illustrations, and sketches while talking story. All abilities and levels are welcome. Drawings are collected at the end of each session and scanned into their Facebook Group page, Comic Jam Hawaii.

It’s not your average Bingo! Instead of Letters and Numbers you’ll be listening to popular songs and marking your cards. If you’re worried you won’t know all of the songs no worries, if you’re listening almost every song will have their song title in the clip we play. We’re playing a fast version so like tic-tac-toe, it’s 3 in a row, with a round of hit all the right notes (all 9 boxes). *Hint* Spotify is allowed if you want to have another tool at your disposal. You are not required to do all of the categories but the following categories will be the different rounds:
Play for snacks and hit all the right notes for some other prizes. Ask the information desk for more information or to sign up, limit 20 players.
