Welcome to the Hawaii Kai Public Library! Designed by architect Harold T. Kurisu, our library opened on Dec. 1, 1973. For nearly 30 years, Hawaii Kai Lions and Nagoya Lions provide unique support – monetary donations and cultural artifacts from Japan. On Aug. 22, 2013, the Friends of Hawaii Kai Public Library opened the new Hawaii Kai community book store.
Just us as we celebrate Mele with a free local documentary film screening!
Li‘a: The Legacy of a Hawaiian Man is an award-winning documentary that celebrates the music and spirit of revered Big Island performer and composer, Sam Liʻa Kalainaina (1881-1975). It is also about a place, Waipi‘o Valley, and a life shaped and nourished by that place. This 74-minute film is suitable for ages 7 and up.
Free documentary copies will be provided, while supplies last.
