Basic Mandarin Chinese Lesson for Teens and Adults

Learn Mandarin Chinese with Red Fan Motif

In honor of Chinese New Year which begins on February 5th, join the Youth Services librarian for an introductory Mandarin Chinese lesson at the library. Learn basic phrases, how to write characters, how to pronounce pinyin, and even learn a little Chinese history! The librarian will show you some popular Chinese language learning apps to continue learning beyond the class as well as introduce attendees to Mango Languages offered free through the library.

Mandarin Chinese is the national dialect of China and is the the most spoken language in the world at 1.1 billion speakers. With a written history extending back 3500 years, China is also the world’s oldest living civilization. And with its economy inextricably linked to the U.S. economy and the world’s, Mandarin Chinese is a very useful language to study.

All language learning materials will be provided by the library. Class limited to 15 attendees. Reservation is required for this event. Please call the library at 622-6345 to reserve your spot and to ask any questions regarding this event. Limited to ages 12 and up only. Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 7 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
