stained wood blocks

Limited to 8 participants, this free two-day teen art program, inspired by Georgia O’Keefe, explores how shadow and light create images that delight the senses. On March 16, create a design on paper, shade the drawing using soft pencils, then transfer the image onto a block of wood. On March 23, apply stain to the wood block and use special tools to “smudge” the stain, creating an allure of shadows. Teens in grades 6-12 of all abilities and levels of interest are welcome to reserve a place for this two-day event by calling the library!

The class will be taught by Lynnie Roberts who is presently a Teaching Artist with the Society for Kona’s Education and Art. SKEA “serves the Hawai’i Island community by providing arts and educational opportunities through programs, projects, and events that contribute to a vibrant community.”

All programs are subject to change. If you require an auxiliary aid or accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days before the program date. For a list of upcoming library events, visit www.librarieshawaii.org/events.
