Kauai is the last main refuge in the world for the endemic Newell’s Shearwater, as well as holding internationally important populations of two other endemic species: the Hawaiian Petrel and the Band-rumped Storm-petrel. The Kauai Endangered Seabird Recovery Project conducts research on all three species and undertakes a wide range of conservation initiatives to help protect them and reverse their declines. Susannah Welch of the Marine Wildlife Program will lead a presentation about the identification and care of our honu (turtle) of Hawai'i with a follow-up craft activity. This one-hour program is suitable for ages 7 and up, and is limited to the first 20 patrons. Children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult caregiver.
