About

Welcome to the Waimea Public Library! Designed by architect Guy Rothwell, our 3,724 sq. ft. library is located on Kaumuali‘i Highway across from Waimea High School. One of the smallest libraries in the state library system, Waimea Public Library supports a diverse and ever-changing community.

Ohana Readers and Imagination Library logosThe Waimea Public Library participates in ʻOhana Readers, a literacy program that focuses on reading with family as an affiliate program of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The program offers high-quality, age-appropriate Imagination Library books each month to children who are under the age of five.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program is a zip code based mailing program. Families must live in these specific Kaua‘i zip codes to participate. 

To register, click your ZIP code to download the registration form or visit the library. You may return the form by mail or drop it off at the branch. The participating library will also offer programs that complement the books the children receive, and will provide other activities to promote literacy and reading.

The 2026-27 school year edition of this weekly after-school program is especially for middle school students (Gr 6-8). Older and younger students are welcome to participate as they are able!

Storytime
Librarian and children at storytime program

Families with young children are welcome to read, sing, and play together at the library!

For the first half, children can play with the library’s toy collection. For the second half, the librarian will read aloud and sing songs (with help from the grown-ups!). We often do a simple craft or art activity at the end!

Please note that program content is targeted toward toddlers and preschool-aged children. However, younger and older siblings are welcome to attend too. All young children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Fri-YAY! Kids Art

Keiki ages 5-11 years (Gr K-5) are invited to drop in our open art studio on Fridays in September. We’ll put out a variety of art materials for you to create with!

Grown-ups are welcome to work alongside their keiki, or collaborate on artwork.

Pokémon Club

Learn to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG)! Demo decks will be provided for learning and casual game play.

Are you “game” to play?

This event is for people who are interested in tabletop gaming, including Euro games.

Bring your favorites to introduce to others and/or borrow some from the library’s collection!

Program is recommended for ages 16 and up.
