North Kohala Public Library
About
Welcome to the North Kohala Public Library! Designed by CDS International, our $7.8 million, 6,000 sq.-ft. “green” library opened on Nov. 8, 2010. In Dec. 2011, we became the first HSPLS library and first state building in Hawai‘i to achieve LEED Gold Certification. Creative and innovative design features including wind and photovoltaic energy systems have helped us save about $1,500 annually on electricity bills.

Join local author Virginia Fortner for a workshop on writing a memoir!
We all have a story–or an interest in someone else’s! Explore what makes stories unique, ones that stick in your memory.
In this workshop, we’ll talk about:
Philosophy and theme
Places and mannerisms
Senses and symbolism
Historical details
Cultural fact/fiction
Shaping stories
Interact with those who have never written, published authors, and folks who haven’t yet told their stories to anyone. Go home with an idea for reading, writing, or tackling your own memoir.

Join us every Wednesday at 10:00am for a fun-filled storytime! We’ll sing songs, read a few simple stories, then make a craft or do an activity. Great fun for 2 – 5 year-olds and their parents or caregivers.

Come build with Legos at North Kohala Library! Participants can free build whatever they can imagine or collaborate together to build a larger, themed project that the group will vote on at the beginning of the event! LEGO club will meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 2:00p – 3:00p.
