Keiki and their ohana are invited to join Wai’anae Public Library for a fun-filled storytime where we read books, sing and dance, and make crafts.  This story-time is aimed at ages 3-5, but all ages are welcome.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Beginning on February 4th, free tax prep services will be provided by certified AARP volunteers. This service is on a walk in, first come first served basis. The service is on Wednesdays from 8am to Noon.  The last day the service will be provided will by on April 8th.

Suggestions on what to bring with you:

• Prior year returns
• All tax related documents
• Photo ID
• Social security cards for all people listed on the tax return including all dependents. (If you have a pink striped SSA statement with the SSN clearly shown, you may use this document.)
• Pension statements
• If you want direct deposit, bring a check from your bank or an account statement with the full account number
• Please summarize your medical expenses or charitable contributions is you have more than 2.

Join us for a new self-guided writing circle that will be on every other Monday from 1-2:30 PM. This month’s meetings will be on Monday,  April 13 and 27. This is a small circle that is a safe place to practice your writing skills, learn from others, and share your own work, thoughts, and dreams.

The Bookbinder’s Secret  by A.D. Bell

A young bookbinder begins a hunt for the truth when a confession hidden beneath the binding of a burned book reveals a story of forbidden love, lost fortune, and murder.

Lilian (“Lily”) Delaney, apprentice to a master bookbinder in Oxford in 1901, chafes at the confines of her life. She is trapped between the oppressiveness of her father’s failing bookshop and still being an apprentice in a man’s profession. But when she’s given a burned book during a visit to a collector, she finds, hidden beneath the binding, a fifty-year-old letter speaking of love, fortune, and murder.

November was the last online book club meeting for the Waianae Book Club. Starting in January 2026 the book club will be an in-person meeting at the same time, 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm in the library meeting room.  The Bookbinder’s Secret will be the selection for April 2026.  No registration required.  We will also begin the process of selecting books for the rest of this year, so bring some interesting titles!  Questions please call the library at 808-697-7868.
