About

Welcome to the Waikīkī-Kapahulu Public Library! Designed by Cyril Lemmon and Associates, we opened on July 11, 1952, at the Diamond Head end of the Ala Wai Canal. Known for its cathedral-like windows, our library serves “snow birds” during the winter from the mainland, Canada, and other visitors worldwide.

Join this crafters’ circle to connect with fiber-loving community members. If you enjoy crochet, knitting, macramé, needlepoint, embroidery, felting and more, this club is for you! Enjoy the opportunity to work on your own project, receive and lend assistance, and nurture your creativity while building community!

This club will set up on the rug near the Children’s Fiction area, so it’s easier to keep an eye on any little ones that join you on your excursion.

Facilitated by lovely volunteer Andrea, this will be a weekly club starting June 5th.

Skills Builder: Library & Research, happy kids holding hands in front of a computer

Skill Builders: Library & Research is a hands-on program designed for homeschooling families who want to develop strong academic skills in a supportive library setting. This program will be taught by Ms. Pukahi, a former Elementary School Librarian Teacher.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to navigate the library catalog and digital databases.
  • Practice locating reliable and age-appropriate sources.
  • Develop strategies for evaluating and organizing information.
  • Gain experience writing clear, structured research papers.
  • Create presentations using Google Slides.
  • Share their work with library friends, building confidence in public speaking and peer learning.

Students may borrow a library Chrome book or bring their own devices for research, writing, and presentations. Parents will appreciate the structured skill-building, while students will enjoy the creativity and teamwork of presenting what they’ve learned.

This program provides a supportive environment where homeschoolers can explore their curiosity, build essential academic skills, and celebrate their learning with a community of peers.

Appropriate for school ages elementary to high school.
