The meeting room is temporarily closed for public use as we work on a heat mitigation solution. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Mahalo!
Welcome to the Laupāhoehoe Public and School Library! Designed by Richard S. Matsunaga and Associates, we opened in 1973 but earthquake damage closed us for nearly a year. We reopened in 1974 on the campus of the Laupāhoehoe Community Public Charter School. We are one of the few Hawai‘i Island libraries to offer a meeting room for public use.

Calling all super fans! Swing by the library after school for a mini Jeopardy-style trivia game packed with your favorite fandoms – from Marvel to Middle-earth, and everything in between!
This event is free and suitable for ages 6 and up.
All materials are generously provided by Friends of the Libraries, Hāmākua

Please make sure young children are accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver to join in.
It’s a great chance for kids to dream up all sorts of creations—structures, vehicles, or anything else they can think of—while also building problem-solving skills and fine motor skills. This casual, friendly event is all about encouraging creativity, teamwork, and having a good time. It’s a wonderful way to relax and have fun after a day at school!

Join us for Story Time every Wednesday! It’s a fun and lively program made just for little ones and their caregivers. Each week, your keiki can enjoy listening to two or three fun stories that are perfect for their age, along with interactive songs and a simple craft activity that’s a great way for kids to get creative while helping them develop early literacy and social skills—all in a warm and friendly library setting. We’d love to see you there!

LEGO Lab is an exciting, hands-on building adventure where keiki watch our LEGO Lab Scientist demonstrate a creation, then have the chance to bring it to life themselves—brick by brick! Each week brings a fresh, thrilling theme, igniting imagination, fueling problem-solving skills, and sparking creativity within the library.
Build and invent together—united by the magic of creation!
Please remember, young children should be accompanied by a parent or caregiver so everyone can share in the fun and wonder.
