Welcome to the Pāhoa Public and School Library! Our library opened on Sept. 3, 1967. We’re located on the campus of Pāhoa High and Elementary School and serve residents and students from two area schools. Recently, we were an important hub after being hit by a hurricane and lava flows approached from Kīlauea volcano.

Welcome to Babies, Books, and Blankets, a lapsit for babies 2 and under. Bring your baby and a blanket to sit on. We’ll provide the books, songs, and games!
There will be a free new book given to child participants the first story time of every month until December 2026. First come, first served. Thank you to the Pahoa Promise Partnership for their generous donations.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required.

Social Service Navigation at Pāhoa Public & School Library
A Puna Social Service Navigator and Certified Kokua Specialist from Kumukahi Health + Wellness will be on-site to offer first-come, first-served navigation and appointment setting. Get help with SNAP, MedQuest, the Federal Marketplace, mental health resources, domestic violence support, family services, kūpuna assistance, home repair loans, volunteer opportunities, emergency rental aid, and more.
Life in Puna looks different than in other parts of our island, and asking for help can feel hard—even from friends or neighbors. Stop by Mondays from 12–4 PM to talk story and find the support you need. Together, we can do so much.

Learn about Hawaiʻi’s wetland birds, shoreline birds, and seabirds. Local organizations will share information about nearby coastal habitats, the native birds that depend on them, and opportunities for community members to participate in conservation and volunteer efforts.
