About

Welcome to the Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library! Designed by Team Pacific, Inc., our library opened in October 1978.  We are located on the campus of Waimea Elementary and Intermediate School. Our library was named after Thelma Parker, who inherited the Parker Ranch, the largest ranch on the Island of Hawaii.

Stories for Preschoolers

The Library hosts story time every Thursday for keikis, 2-5 and their families.  The program includes stories and songs with a simple craft activity to follow.  This enjoyable and bonding experience can provide opportunities for brain development and the building of friendships.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.  Special Events may be held in lieu of regularly scheduled programs.

Magic

A fantasy card game for ages 10 and up. Come learn the game and meet new players.

Award-winning hip hop musician and educator Mr. Kneel, aka Neil McIntyre, will present a lively hip hop family event at Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library in Waimea at 10a.m. on Thursday, December 7.  The event is free and open to the public.

The engaging and creative Mr. Kneel is a beatboxer, freestyle rapper, and self-described “professional goofball” who records with his lifelong musical heroes, including Kurtis Blow and 2Mex of the Visionaries.  He has performed at more than 500 schools and venues in 43 states and seven provinces abroad.  His events have been described as “family hip hop” at its finest.

All students in grades 6-12 are invited to enter our TEEN BOOK POSTER CONTEST!

Choose your favorite book (includes comic book or manga) and create a poster, book jacket, bookmark, or other two-dimensional art.  No larger than 18″ x 24″.  All art must be submitted to Thelma Parker Memorial Library no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017.  For further details on contest rules please contact Pam or Ashley at Thelma Parker Memorial Library, 808-887-067.

An Awards Ceremony will be held at the Library at 5:00p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.

Children and their families will love the high-energy task of jumping from “planet” to “planet.”  As the immense scale of the solar system is revealed, participants of all ages will experience unforgettable “AHA” moments while learning about our solar system.

The Library is offering a series of free science programs for students and families as part of the NASA@My Library program. The program is offered by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute (SSI) in partnership with the American Library Association Public Programs Office, the Pacific Science Center, Cornerstones of Science and the Education Development Center, and the support of the NASA’s Science Mission Directorate via a cooperative agreement between NASA and SSI.
