Welcome to the Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library! Designed by Team Pacific, Inc., our library opened in October 1978.  We are located on the campus of Waimea Elementary and Intermediate School. Our library was named after Thelma Parker, who inherited the Parker Ranch, the largest ranch on the Island of Hawaii.

Attend an afterschool movie screening every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.  Everybody is invited to watch a PG rated movie located in our meeting room. Contact the library to find out the movie title.

Dr. Arthur Goshtasby, an emeritus Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Wright University in Ohio, will lead this short course.  Learn the basics of the Internet and the various information and services available on the Internet.  Among the topics to be covered are: using online dictionaries, finding online articles and books, searching for jobs; creating, sending, and receiving e-mail, internet security and safety tips, and more.

The Library hosts story time every Thursday for keikis, 2-5 and their families.  The program includes stories and songs with a simple craft activity to follow.  This enjoyable and bonding experience can provide opportunities for brain development and the building of friendships.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.  Special Events may be held in lieu of regularly scheduled programs.

Join us for Movie Night!  Every second Wednesday of the month Thelma Parker hosts a new, ‘Just Released DVD’ movie.  This is a free program and opened to the community.  Come check out the big screen, big sound and air conditioned meeting room.  Don’t forget the popcorn!

Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library will host a writers workshop, Self Publishing 101, at 5p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, in the library meeting room.  The event is free and open to the public.

Sam Cudney, a Hawaii Island-based freelance editor and writer with a background in non-fiction and technical writing, will lead the workshop.  Cudney has published several books for himself and others, including a book on self-publishing, How to Publish Your Book for Free.  The workshop will demonstrate in detail the intricacies of the self publishing process using readily-available tools.  Participants will learn how to format their work for both e-book and print.

YES!  It’s that time again, SPRING, EGGS, & HUNTERS!

Thelma Parker hosts its 10th Annual egg hunt on Saturday, April 20th.  Calling children ages from 0 to 8 to help us find the eggs lost in the back yard.  Hunters need to bring their own egg baskets along with eggstraordinary hunting skills. The first group of Hunters, ages 0 to 4 will start at 10am.  The second group, ages 5 to 8 will begin at 10:30am.  Be on time!  Don’t be late, the bunny don’t wait and neither do we.
