A Visit with Abraham Lincoln

September 13, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Historian John Voehl dressed as Abraham Lincoln

Join us for this Free living history presentation by John Voehl, historian and presenter, who has done over 1,000 presentations as President Abraham Lincoln.  The presentation will focus on the former president’s thoughts about the deep division in the nation and in government in 1858 on the subject of slavery.

A Republican Party nominee for U.S. Senator from the State of Illinois at the time, Lincoln’s colleagues warned him not to talk publicly on this divisive subject, saying it would ruin his political ambitions.  But Lincoln persisted, giving an address that would become known as one of the greatest speeches of his career.  He lost that election.  This program is suitable for family and a general audience.

Program schedule is subject to change.  Contact the library at least 15 days in advance to request any special accommodations, like a sign language interpreter.
