Early Days of Kekaha Sugar with Chris Faye of Hui o Laka

Kekaha Sugar Mill 1899

Chris Faye will present the history of the sugar industry in Kekaha. Learn about the beginnings of sugar planting in Kekaha, the founding of the Kekaha Sugar Mill in 1879, and its incorporation in 1898 as a sugar plantation.

 

Chris Faye is descended from three managers of Kekaha Sugar, and has led tours of Waimea Sugar Mill Camp as well as Gay & Robinson’s Sugar Plantation. She also served as curator for the Kauai Museum for seven years. Ms. Faye is currently the director of Hui o Laka.
