Jane Austen’s Connections to New Zealand

The Jane Austen Society of North America, Hawai`i Region, and the Hawaii State Library are proud to present a free public talk about Jane Austen, the English novelist of beloved classics including Pride and Prejudice and Emma. Join us as visiting lecturer Frances Duncan gives fascinating insight into the author’s connections to New Zealand. This program will take place in the First floor Reading Room of the library.

Frances Duncan is the founder and president of the Jane Austen Society of New Zealand and an independently published author. Her second novella Beautiful Abomination was shortlisted for best novella in the 2018 Sir Julius Vogel awards. She lives in Wellington and is of Ngati Porou and Te Whanau ā Apanui descent.

The Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA), marking its 40th anniversary this year, strives to foster the study, understanding, and appreciation of Jane Austen’s works, life, and genius. JASNA Hawaii, the group’s local chapter, was established in 2013.
