Jazz Styles & Improvisation Techniques

Musicians Dean Taba & Noel Okimoto

IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK!

Musicians Dean Taba and Noel Okimoto will offer a selection of songs from the greats throughout the age of jazz. They will also provide an overview of what musicians are doing when improvising a solo or accompaniment. Dean Taba is a highly regarded studio & freelance musician who has performed and recorded with a variety of local and national musicians. Drummer Noel Okimoto is the percussion section leader of the historic Royal Hawaiian Band. He is also an accomplished orchestral percussionist, vibraphonist, composer and clinician. This 45-minute program is suitable for ages 5 and older. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Program is sponsored by the Friends of Kailua Library. This is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii.

Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library at least 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
