Tracy Fredin, John Shepard and Taylor Fredin of Hamline Universityʻs Center for Global Environmental Education will share their stories of developing multimedia learning programs about the Garden Isle and their in-depth work with a Niʻihau charter school in Kekaha on Kauaʻi’s west side.

For more than a decade these educators have partnered with the Kauaʻi Museum, the National Tropical Botanical Garden, the Kauaʻi Forest Bird Recovery Project and others to curate and produce the Kauaʻi Multimedia Gallery exhibit kiosk currently on display at the Princeville Public Library and at nine other island locations. This work, which brings to life the island’s timeless cultural traditions and incomparably rich natural history, has been complemented by extensive engagement with the Ke Kula Niʻihau O Kekaha Learning Center. With teachers providing language expertise and students working as authors, the Hamline team has published nearly 100 books in ʻōlelo Niʻihau along with a wealth of learning resources that are helping to sustain this threatened Hawaiian dialect.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit www.librarieshawaii.org/events
