WAX RESIST PAINTING OF MAKAHIKI WORKSHOP

January 19, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

painting with starlit sky, palm tree and ocean

Join visiting teaching artists from Hui No’eau Visual Art Center on Maui, for a fun & unique arts experience.

Take a journey back in time to a time of peace and feasts across the Hawaiian islands! In the midst of Makahiki season we invite young artists to share and expand their knowledge about Makahiki. This ancient Hawaiian New Year festival starts with the rise of the cluster of stars, Makali’i, over the horizon of Hawai’i at sunset and lasts four months. Students will experiment with the exciting wax resist painting technique to create their Makahiki scene, then will have the opportunity to embellish their work with rhinestones.

Come get creative, during this free event!

All ages welcome.

Sponsored in partner with Hui No`eau Visual Arts Center.
