Welcome to the Kōloa Public and School Library! Our library was designed by Wilson Okamoto and Associates and opened in June 1976. Our 10,400 sq. ft. library serves students of Koloa Elementary and communities of Kōloa, Poʻipū, Kukui‘ula, ʻŌmaʻo, Lāwaʻi and Kalāheo.
Join us every Tuesday morning for playtime (10:00am – 10:30am) followed by a storytime program Tuesday Tales & Tunes (10:30am – 11:00am). Recommended for little ones ages 2-5, but all ages are welcome. Keiki must be accompanied by their caregivers.

All parents and caregivers of a child developing their own way – including those with language delays, intellectual challenges, learning differences, autism and more – are welcome to join these free, drop-in support meetings to connect with other families and build a network of support.
Julie Spicer, a Nationally Certified and a Hawai’i Licensed Speech Language Therapist, from Garden Island Speech Therapy facilitates these sessions. She holds an advanced certificate in DIRFloortime, an intervention model focusing on development, individual differences and relationships.

Join us as we celebrate Mele with a free local documentary film screening!
Those Who Came Before: The Musical Journey of Eddie Kamae pays tribute to three remarkable teachers that have guided Eddie Kamae: the great author and translator Mary Kawena Pukui, the “Songwriter of Waipiʻo” Sam Liʻa, and “Aloha Chant” author Pilahi Paki. One by one, they entrusted Eddie with key pieces of Hawaiʻi’s heritage – inspiring him to understand, perform, and pass that heritage on to the children of Hawaiʻi. This 57-minute film is suitable for ages 7 and up.
Free documentary copies will be provided, while supplies last.

Join Elvrine Chow, lei maker, instructor and author for a hands-on lei poʻo demonstration. With the help of participants, Elvrine will create a fresh flower and foliage crown – lei poʻo – to wear on the head or tie to a hat. One lucky participant will go home with the lei! All are welcome, no registration necessary.

Celebrate the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge!
2025 has been proclaimed the Year of Our Community Forests in Hawai‘i! Join Joanna Manna, a Conservation Research Assistant with the Kaua‘i Forest Bird Recovery Project, for a free educational and interactive program for all ages.
This one-hour event begins with a tree mele or ‘oli, includes a brief presentation on community forests, and will end with an engaging activity that highlights the importance of forest stewardship across our islands.

Celebrate the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge!
Jeff Peterson will perform mele for slack key guitar that trace the history of Hawaiian music from the Monarchy era to the present day, highlighting Wahi Pana—songs that honor the sacred and storied places across the islands, from the mountains to the sea. Jeff brings deep cultural insight and masterful technique to each performance. His passion for the guitar has earned him recognition as a leading solo artist and collaborator, working with a wide range of musicians from Hawai‘i, the U.S. continent, and around the world. This free 45-minute event is suitable for all ages.

Join us for a drop-in art activity presented by Janne Larsen and the Garden Island Arts Council VAN GO! Mobile Art Room. Pre-printed illustrations of native Hawaiian plants will be available to paint using handcrafted botanical inks. All ages and skills levels are welcome to come and explore the colors and stories of plants like Lauhala, Maʻo Hau Hele, and Olena.
