Book Club: “The Night Watchman” by Louise Erdrich

January 10, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich

Join the discussion of  The Night Watchman, Louise Erdrich’s novel based on the extraordinary life of her grandfather, Patrick Gourneau!

Thomas and Patrice live on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in rural North Dakota, a place where even those doing their best live in poverty. While they struggle to make ends meet and feed their families, a new “emancipation” bill threatens to upend treaties made with Native American Tribes, taking away their rights to reservation land and their very identities.

The North Kohala Book Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 11:00am to discuss a title chosen by the club’s members. For more information, contact North Kohala Library at 808-889-6655. Recommended for ages 18 and older.
