July 6, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Molly Murphy has dedicated her life to protecting Hawai’i’s native ecosystems from invasive species. Part botanical historian and part plant detective, Molly is the Plant Pono Specialist for the Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC). She is a knowledgeable presenter on the latest invasive species issues. Her work with local nurseries and gardeners has resulted in a significant decrease in invasive species sales and installations here on Hawai’i Island. Invasive species are threatening Hawai’i’s biodiversity. Molly will offer information on making pono planting choices for your garden. Our laws preventing the importation and sale of invasive plants are very permissive, hence most invasive plants were brought here by well-intentioned people for use in gardens, agriculture or forestry. Molly will demonstrate the importance of voluntary efforts to protect our native flora and fauna. Come learn ways to become good stewards of our ‘aina by planting pono.

The CSL is generously supported by the Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK). If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit www.librarieshawaii.org/events.
