Erhu Lecture and Recital

February 26, 2024 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Sun Hui photo

Sun Hui, PhD, will play the erhu and discuss the instrument’s role in Chinese classical music composition, poetry, and philosophy. The erhu is the most popular of the Chinese huqin family of bowed string instruments. It is known in the Western world as the Chinese violin or two-stringed fiddle. Though it likely originated outside of the country, few musical instruments evoke China more than the erhu.

Sun lives in Hawaii and holds a BA in Erhu Performance from the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, a MA in Music Composition, and a PhD in Cognitive Ethnomusicology from the Ohio State University.

Recommended for a general audience, especially ages 12 and up.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required.
All programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events at librarieshawaii.org/events.
