Hawaii State Library Book Group – “Our Souls at Night” by Kent Haruf

March 16, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Book Cover: "Kent Haruf Our Souls at Night", starry night with sunset over two farm houses

For the month of March, the HSL Book Group will discuss the novel Our Souls at Night by critically acclaimed bestselling author Kent Haruf.

Loosely inspired by the author’s own marriage and finished just days before his death, Our Souls at Night centers on a Colorado widow and widower who agree to sleep in the same bed every night to stave off loneliness, amidst disapproval from their grown children and the local townsfolk.

With a film adaptation starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda slated for release in 2017, this poignant later-life tale will garner a wait list in libraries by year’s end, so why not beat the crowd, read it now, and join our March discussion!

The HSL Book Group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Language, Literature, and History Section. New members are always welcome. No registration necessary. Program schedule is subject to change.  Please contact the library ten (10) days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
