Katsu Goto: A Talk by Author and Researcher Patsy Iwasaki

September 21, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Photograph of Katsu Goto, one of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.

Are you interested in local history? Join us for a talk from UH Hilo professor Patsy Iwasaki on the life of Katsu Goto, one of the first immigrants from Japan to Hawaii, and an important figure in Honokaa’s history. Ms. Iwasaki is the author of a manga-style book telling the story of Goto, titled Hamakua Hero. We are celebrating Mr. Goto in honor of the International Day of Peace, in order to better understand the role of peace in our community.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit www.LibrariesHawaii.org/events.
