The Art of Taiko: Energy

June 22, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 11:15 am

Kenny Endo taiko drumming

In Celebration of the 2019 Summer Reading Program!

Like all phenomena in this universe, taiko (Japanese drumming) is a result of forces interacting and affecting one another. Master taiko artist Kenny Endo has been inspired by space, the heavens, and universal energy in his original compositions. Endo and his Taiko Ensemble will perform contemporary pieces such as Soaring, Jugoya (Crystal Clear Moon), Moonwind (a.k.a. Backside of the Moon), and Winds of Change.

This free 45-minute program is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and the 2019 Summer Reading Sponsors. This program is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with funding and support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change.
