The Promise of Statehood: Looking Back, Moving Forward – Opening Program

A special program, sponsored by the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities, will take place on opening day from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Free and open to the public, the program begins with a welcome at 10:00 am, followed at 10:30 am by a community-building Try Think program featuring former governor John Waiheʻe, Hawai‘i historian John Rosa, producer/director of “State of Aloha” Anne Misawa, and Dean Saranillio, author of the recently published book, “Unsustainable Empire: Alternative Histories of Hawaiʻi Statehood.” Activities for youth will run from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a special storytime at 10:30 am.
