Turning Trash into Treasure with Upcycle Hawaii

June 20, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Rope collected from the ocean to be recycled

Upcycle Hawaii has diverted 797 pounds and over 56,000 square feet of plastics from local landfills since January 2018.  Mattie Larson, founder of the Hilo business, Upcycle Hawaii, will share an innovative demonstration on the evolution of a hobby to a business and the power of sustainability to change our community.  A sampler of her unique products created from “trash” will be on display.  Mattie will answer any questions you may have.

Upcycle’s Mission Statement: To give over-looked and under-appreciated materials a second-life through upcycling by creating unique and quality products for our customers while diverting mass from local landfills.

“We don’t believe in trash, only overlooked and under-appreciated materials.”

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation
due to a disability, please contact the library 7 days prior to the
program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests
for accommodations. All programs are subject to change.
