In celebration of the Aloha Festivals (formerly known as Aloha Week), the Hawaii and Pacific Section at Hawaii State Library has assembled a display of classic articles, magazines, brochures, and pins in the Library’s first floor reading room display case.
The brainstorming for Aloha Week started in 1946 by Harry C. Nordmark. The first Aloha Week event took off on October 26-November 2, 1947, as a cultural celebration of Hawaii’s music, dance and history to perpetuate the islands’ unique traditions. The Aloha Festivals has become a month long event with activities scheduled among all the islands.
