‘Ukulele Lending Program Launch with Jake Shimabukuro & Taimane

July 18, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Ukulele with virtuosos Jake Shimabukuro and Taimane

The Hawaii State Library is launching a new lending collection of ‘ukulele beginning July 18th. Library patrons may borrow ‘ukulele for a three-week period at no cost with a valid library card. The ‘ukulele instruments are provided and supported by the Music For Life Foundation and Jake Shimabukuro, co-director of the ‘ukulele sponsorship. The goal of this program is to make ‘ukulele and ‘ukulele-playing opportunities accessible for all by allowing them to be checked out as easily as books are at your local public library.

To launch this fun new service and to provide inspiration to learn to play the ‘ukulele, the public is invited to a special evening of musical performance featuring virtuoso ‘ukulele artists, Jake Shimabukuro and Taimane. The free one-hour event will be held in the library’s front lobby.

The Hawaii State Library is the fourth library to launch the ‘Ukulele Lending Program, with special collections started at Nanakuli, Waimanalo and Aina Haina Public Libraries earlier this year.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change.
