Learning with Light

June 15, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 11:45 am

Earth with light

In celebration of the 2019 Summer Reading Program!

Astronomer Roy R. Gal will demonstrate how he uses the light given off by planets, stars, and galaxies to understand their composition and temperature. Attendees will also be able to see the different colors of light they emit and use that to figure out what they are. This free 45-minute interactive program will be held in the First Floor Reading Room and is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Roy R. Gal is an Assistant Astronomer at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. He oversees all of the Institute’s outreach, fundraising, and public relations activities. He also teaches classes and conducts research.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and the 2019 Summer Reading Sponsors. This program is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with funding and support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change.
